Following are the photos from the Art Quilts Meeting that met last Wednesday at the Sahara West Library. I hope I got most of the information right, but if not, well...... you can always fire me! ha ha Hope you enjoy, and if you decide to subscribe, you'll be more likely to catch more of my pearls of wisdom in the future! Mary

This is my new tote bag that was brought together with some inspiration from Johnnys tv shows about comets, stars, and solar winds. It has razzle dazzle, sparkle threads, machine embroidery, and about everything else i could throw at it!

This face from a recent class with Dorit. She's needle sculpted on a styrofoam ball covered with felt, stuffing, and a piece of pantyhose. She is only about 4 1/2" tall.

This shot was taken of Deb at the Quilt Show with all her beautiful work behind her. We were so proud of you, Deb!

Ramona shows us the front and back side of her piece which depicts Japan before and after the recent earthquake and tsunami.

Responding to my challenge to do a piece relating to shoes, Heather decorated her sandals, then made bracelet and earrings to match. It has inspired her to offer a new item in her art show sales booths.

Ramona calls this her button quilt.

These faces were done by Sandy Leal, and the Easter eggs of silk by Diane Zammito.

Heather was inspired by Bette Beauregard's class on Zentangles and has redesigned her trademark sign for further art sales.

Angie has done a beautiful small floral piece with ribbonwork and quilting.

Janett Rice answered the shoe challenge with this photo transfer of high heel shoes nailed to a telephone pole found in Albquerque, NM during her last trip there. Then she added photos of other shoes in the piecework.

I think this is Janett Rice's "Holland Tulips" piece.

Sometimes I don't pay attention

More Zentangles

Heather shows us some of her new jewelry

Barbara Sines showed us her Granny Moon doll.

Sandy Hadland designed this piece on Empowering Shoes for the challenge.

Some of Heather's beautiful cuffs, purses, and a piece made of needle felting by her friend (the hummingbird) We'd really like the friend to come teach us sometime! Please beg her, heather!

Angie Sohnley saw the photo of a designer purse from Chico's and rendered her own with some improvements! Nice job, Angie!

This purse, or craft carrier was also done by Angie. She put it together without a pattern, after seeing one similar that a friend had. There are removable pouches inside, and the whole purse opens out flat for full exposure to everything. Pretty cool!

This is Janet Cochran's response to the shoe challenge. She described it as a closet that exploded because of the shoes inside.

Sorry about crediting it to Sandy, but what can I say?.....

Marka Harwell Bentley designed this piece with her husband's home country of Australia in mind. The location is Uluru, and it has a large red rock as you can see. The circles represent sun spots, and there are also references to the detailing of Aboriginal art.

This piece is by Cecelia Adair and she calls it rotating triangles. She's been doing basic design exercises from a book, but she has added some innovative details such as the background texture created by applying yarn to the top of the black fabric. This is fully pieced.

This piece is alo by Cecelia and is called tree mirror. As another exercise, she was working on the reflection of the tree in the water. Nice job!

Rickie Seifried did this challenge piece as an ongoing exercise in Bette's Zentangles transferred to fabrics. She used vegetable netting to do the background Shoe, and fused much of the shoe.. Additionally she used brads and crystals.

Karen Garth's quilt with her husband's initials

Bette Beauregard has done an antiqued collage of photo, fabric, cardboard, rhinestones, metal, canvas dyed by fabric, and probably more. After the show and tell she gave us a presentation of her process and the materials involved. Really great, Bette. I am eyeing the canvas I just discovered in my stash, and now I'm off to buy some cheap instant coffee to do the deed.

Bette's 2nd piece

Sue Karaalp shows her black and green table runner.

Sue tells us that this cathedral was begun in a "previous life" and she had none of the scraps left over to do the striping around the edges. We thought she did a great job of matching colors from her present stash.

Sandy Hadland made this flowering quilt.

Connie Eikenberry showed us this round robin quilt

Connie made this quilt from a jelly roll.

Ann Pugh shows the twin quilt she has made to send to Japan.
